Happy New Year to Everyone! It’s 2009 and Glade started the first week back with Neil Poole telling us about the importance of trusting each other and keeping focus and persistence in what we want to achieve. After that, the week got even better, especially for Year 6; In Literacy, we were learning about Native Americans and the stories they told in their tribe. We then wrote stories of our own and we have included Louie Stocking’s outstanding piece of writing for you to read. (Underneath)
Why Birds Eat Worms?
As the giant magpie silently glided in with his evil frown and his delicate wings brushing the air, he lowered himself down to the family of worms.
“Why, Hello there!” The bird said slyly. “I didn’t manage to see you there; you brown wiggly pieces of mud”
The magpie looked deeply into the worms little eyes with a wicked smile, he lifted his precious wings, approaching them as if he was going to kill the family of worms but strangely enough, he didn’t. At this point, the worm and his family were absolutely terrified as the evil magpie started to speak viciously to the worms.
“Oh! Don’t fret, don’t cry little fellow, you’ve got three more minutes to get down and scram before I crush you!” the magpie told the poor family of worms. The smallest worm burst into tears as he squeaked a little sentence out.
“Why you are doing this, I will never understand!”
“Well, I need a bit of soft scrumptious food to keep me healthy and strong enough to fly. Don’t I?” The bird replied with a smug smile.
“Oh pish posh! Who cares about filling your tummy? What about our survival?!” The worm cried helplessly.
“Pish posh? What sort of words are those?” The bird said confusedly “Anyhow, give me one good explanation of why I shouldn't’t tear you and your pathetic worm family to bits?”
The worm was silent
“Oh well, don’t worry if you are stuck for a reason, I will put you out of your misery and eat you right this minute!” The bird lunged towards him to take a bite but the worm cowardly slithered back and responded,
“Wait, what about my three minutes?”
“Oh yes, well, your three minutes start…NOW!!!”
The poor worm watched as the wretched magpie made fun of him snoring and looking at his pretend watch on his wrist.
“Tick, Tock, Tick, Tock, time’s running out. Two and a half minutes left…” He laughed menacingly.
“Stop making those weird unnecessary noises!” The family of worms complained.
“Excuse me?” The bird asked
At this sudden moment, the worm went up close to the worms and threatened in his face,
“Sorry?”
“Er..Nothing, I’m sorry, I…er” The worms stammered.
The bird had enough, as quick as a flash, he gobbled the worms up just like he promised, ripping them carefully to shreds and swallowing loudly, licking his lips.
The magpie set off for another journey to get more delicious food.
The bird lived evilly ever after and that is why birds eat worms.
By Louie Stockings. Also in Maths, we revised angles and place value to help us in our S.A.T’s in May. We had a lot of fun in P.S.H.E/ History learning about Martin Luther King Jr. and Barrack Obama, America’s First Black President. Have a safe weekend and see you next week!
